I recently returned from Spain, and I wanted to share my journey with you. The process of finding a host family is the first—and probably the most important—step in any exchange like this. It’s crucial to take your time and really consider your options when choosing a family, because your experience will largely depend on the environment you’re in and how the host family treats you. Sure, it takes some time to adjust in the beginning, and it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions when you suddenly find yourself in an unfamiliar place. But this experience teaches you how to become more independent. After a while, everything starts to feel natural, and you begin to embrace their way of life. That’s when the truly unforgettable part starts.
My advice? Don’t give up at the first bump in the road. In the end, my two and a half months in Spain were full of positive memories and beautiful moments. I stayed in Mallorca, and I honestly recommend it to everyone—it’s filled with charming little towns and stunning beaches. I met wonderful people and created memories I’ll never forget. I especially loved the town I was in and all the amazing trips I got to take around Spain.
