Our cultural exchange participant Korina writes to us from Washington, D.C., where she’ll be spending the next 12 months. Read more about her impressions and experiences so far.
So far, the program has been a challenge—but in the best possible way. There are a lot of new things to learn and adjust to, but at the same time, I’ve been given a chance to step out of my comfort zone and grow on so many levels. Every day brings a new experience and a new perspective, which motivates me to keep learning and adapting. Even though the pace can be intense, I see it as an opportunity to grow and evolve.
Korina also shared how she spends her free time—and what she’s enjoyed the most about her time in the U.S.
I usually spend my free time working out, exploring the area, and discovering new places. Sometimes I treat myself to a little shopping, and of course, I make time to relax and study. I try to balance downtime and productivity so I can make the most of this experience. What I’ve loved most is getting to know myself in a completely fresh and exciting way—through new challenges, experiences, and situations that constantly push me to grow. Facing and overcoming fears brings a powerful sense of achievement. Getting to know the area and different cultures adds even more depth to this experience and opens up entirely new perspectives.
When it comes to working with our team, Korina had only positive things to say:
Very professional and kind, always available and quick to respond. The programs are well thought-out and adaptable to different interests. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to broaden their horizons through an intercultural experience.
Her message to future participants:
It won’t always be easy, and there will be tough moments. The program will probably turn out differently than you expect—I’m sure of it—and yes, you’ll face challenges. Ask yourself if this is really what you want, and what your intentions and expectations are. And most importantly, don’t forget to enjoy it—there are so many possibilities! Relax, trust the process, and things will fall into place. My recommendation? Get yourself a journal and write everything down—both the good and the not-so-good. Focus on the positives and all the goals you want to achieve!
