Anđela, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, is checking in from the charming town of Sóller, on the island of Mallorca, where she’ll be staying for three months. Here’s what she shared about her experience so far:
This program offers an unforgettable experience—living in another country, getting to know a new culture and language, making friends, and traveling to incredible places. The host family I’m staying with welcomed me so warmly. They’ve been by my side every step of the way, helping me adjust quickly and easily to all the changes. Everything has been going smoothly.
The town I’m living in is small, beautiful, and filled with modern architecture and narrow, picturesque streets. It’s also known for having the best freshly squeezed orange juice, and for its many festivals and local holidays that bring the village to life.
I use my free time to travel and explore other towns, beaches—both the popular and the hidden ones—and sometimes I go shopping or hiking. The island offers so many opportunities, and I’m doing my best to make the most of every one.
I’m also really happy to have a great relationship with the kids I’m looking after, which makes the parents even more pleased with me—and as a result, they often reward me with extra days off so I can have time to myself, travel, and keep exploring the island.
Her message to future participants:
Don’t wait—apply! Besides living in a new country, meeting new people, and learning the language and culture, this program is the perfect opportunity to work on yourself, step out of your comfort zone, strengthen your mental well-being, and face new challenges that will ultimately have a positive impact on you.
