Our cultural exchange participant in Spain, Ivana, writes to us from Bilbao, the capital of the Basque Country, where she has been living for the past two months. Here’s more about her experience:
I enjoy this program. Honestly, I don’t think I would’ve ever visited this many places in the region if it weren’t for the exchange. Bilbao is a beautiful city—still developing in many ways—but the surrounding towns are also definitely worth exploring. The family I’m staying with has been wonderful to me, and I feel like I’ve settled in well. The kids can be a handful at times, but spending time with them is exciting and always keeps things interesting.
Some days I explore the city, other days I hit the gym, and sometimes I just enjoy time with the family.
It’s hard to pick just one thing I’ve loved the most about this experience. I’m happy that my Spanish has improved, and I’ve gotten to try so many things I never would have back home.
To anyone considering this experience, I’d say: go for it. It’s unforgettable, and you come out of it a richer person, especially in spirit.
