Our cultural exchange participant Branka is writing to us from Moncofa, a municipality in the Valencian Community, where she’s been living for the past month. Here’s what she had to say about her experience.
Moncofa is a true little gem! I honestly feel like I’m right in the heart of Spain’s coast, which is perfect because being by the sea was one of my biggest wishes—and now it’s come true. It’s a lovely town full of life and warm people. Plus, it’s really well connected to other cities, which is great because I want to explore as much of Spain as I can. I was a bit nervous before coming here—heading to an unfamiliar place to live with strangers—but now I’m more afraid of going back to reality! 😁
The family is amazing. The little girl I’m helping take care of is super energetic, so it’s never boring. Her parents are full of life too—sometimes I genuinely wonder how they manage it all! They’re very active and often include me in social gatherings. I’ve met a bunch of their friends and extended family, and I truly feel welcomed. Everyone’s been doing their best to make me feel comfortable here.
I usually spend my free time at the beach or exploring nearby cities—sometimes alone, sometimes with the family, or with other girls from the program. I love going on walks, reading, taking dance classes, and enjoying the many events and parties happening around town. There’s always something going on!
What I loved the most—and what I was most excited about—is the chance to travel across Spain and see as much as possible. This program really makes that easy, and it’s perfect for anyone who loves traveling, learning about new cultures and lifestyles. And honestly, Spain does not disappoint! If you have the chance, take a month (or more!) and go for it. Don’t hesitate—I only regret not doing it sooner.
