Đorđe, one of our cultural exchange participants, spent two months in the ancient city of Girona, the capital of Catalonia. Describing himself as an adventurer who thrives on freedom and travel, he found exactly what he was looking for through this program. Here are some of his reflections from his time in Catalonia.
The city is beautiful and close to the sea, so beach trips were a regular thing, and Barcelona isn’t far either. The host family was wonderful. The kids weren’t difficult to look after, and the parents were incredibly kind and easygoing. As for the friendliness of the locals—don’t even get me started!
Đorđe had great things to say about the overall organization of the program and took full advantage of his free time, guided by his adventurous spirit. He was especially impressed by the charming towns along the Costa Brava, where he spent most of his weekends.
Every day, I explored something new in the city. At first, I spent my time getting to know Girona and all the nearby beaches. Not long after, I met a bunch of other au pairs also staying in Girona—from all over the world! Now we hang out a few times a week, go out for drinks, and just enjoy life. Not even COVID managed to get in the way of my experience.
