Bojana, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Bormujos, a small town just outside of Seville. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:
I have nothing but praise for this program and the organization behind it. They’ve been there for me from the very beginning, helping with everything I needed—I’m genuinely impressed and so happy I joined. My first impressions upon arrival were wonderful.
From the start, the host family welcomed me as one of their own. I get along great with the kids, and we work everything else out easily. Everyone has been incredibly kind and made sure I felt as comfortable as possible.
I’ve learned so many things about Seville that I didn’t know before. In my free time, I enjoy working out, going on walks, reading books in Spanish, and discovering new restaurants. I’ve been here for almost two months now, and my Spanish has improved a lot in that time.
I arrived during the Christmas season, and I was blown away by how beautifully everything was decorated. The way they celebrate and their holiday traditions are completely different from what I’m used to—and it was such a joy to experience.
What I’ve loved most is their culture and the people I’ve met so far. Not just the host family, but also their extended relatives and friends—everyone has been so warm and welcoming. It’s hard not to feel like part of the community here.
Her message to future participants:
To all future participants—don’t hesitate, just apply! Everything is so well organized that your only job is to sign up and gather the necessary documents.
I highly recommend Spain—the people are incredibly sociable and love to connect, so making new friends comes naturally. The longer you stay, the better, because every season brings something new to discover.
Most importantly, when choosing your host family, be honest and open in your communication. Agree on everything upfront to avoid misunderstandings later on.
