A Movie-Like Adventure in Barcelona

Nađa, one of our cultural exchange participants, spent what she calls a “movie-like” experience living in Barcelona. And why movie-like? Because, as she puts it, everything sounded too good to be true at first—until she got there and realized it truly was that magical. She came across our organization and the exchange program by chance and immediately knew she had to try it. So she packed her bags, headed to Barcelona, and discovered just how cinematic real life can feel.

Life in a movie! There’s not a single thing I’d complain about—rest, enjoyment, trying new food, hearing a new language, and constantly exploring the city. I’ve never been happier. This program is genuinely amazing. From the moment I applied, I had a coordinator who guided me through everything and stayed in touch until I arrived in Spain. That kind of support means the world.

Her host family welcomed her with open arms, and she couldn’t be more pleased with the match and the way they treated her.

Any family that picks you will be a great experience. If you know how to find joy in the little things, this becomes way more than just a job. I was greeted by a wonderful family and took care of a 10-year-old girl. We got along so well—it was all very relaxed and transparent. They truly welcomed me as one of their own. And they travel a lot, so I always get to go with them.

For her two months in Barcelona, Nađa visited every major landmark, explored other towns like S’Agaró, Formentera, and Ibiza, tried delicious food, and made friends she still keeps in touch with today.

Every single person I met amazed me. The energy here is something you just have to experience. I’ve learned so much—I honestly think I’ll return home a changed person. And the best part? Now, whenever I come back to Spain as a tourist, I know I’ll be warmly welcomed by all the wonderful people I met here. Incredible people, music, beaches, restaurants, greenery, laughter everywhere… I recommend it from the bottom of my heart!
