Bojana, one of our cultural exchange participants, is currently settling into life in faraway Beijing, where she’ll be spending the next six months. Here’s what she shared about her first impressions:
The family is incredibly kind. They’re doing their best to make me feel right at home, and even though I’ve just arrived, I already feel like I made the right choice. Beijing is such a massive city, but so far I’ve managed to explore a few nearby parks. I was honestly surprised by how huge they are—it takes hours just to walk through one!
There are so many things that are completely different from what I’m used to back home. Every day brings something new to see or learn, so there’s never a dull moment.
When it comes to her free time and favorite experiences so far, Bojana says:
I mostly spend my free time walking around, getting to know the city—and of course, trying out restaurants! The food has definitely been my favorite part so far. I’ve been going to all kinds of local places, but even the meals my host family cooks are absolutely delicious. I’ve tried so many new dishes I’d never even heard of before, and I’ve loved every bite.
Bojana also shared her thoughts on working with the team back home:
The whole experience has been amazing. From the moment I applied to the moment I landed in China, everything went smoothly. The coordinators were there for me every step of the way, helping out with anything I needed and clearing up any questions or concerns I had.
And her message to future participants?
Go for it! If you’re someone who loves to travel and wants to experience another culture in the truest sense of the word, I highly recommend signing up for this cultural exchange program.
