Our cultural exchange participant Branislava writes to us from Douglas, Arizona, where she’ll be spending the next year. Here’s more about her unique experience.
This program is truly worth the effort. I recently arrived in Alaska, with the help of the Center for Affirmation and Development. Since I love exploring different cultures, learning languages, and experiencing new things—and I also happen to be a fan of winter—it led me here, to Alaska, thanks to the support and dedication of the team. I’ll be staying with this wonderful host family for the next year. The nature and fresh air here are absolutely breathtaking—something that can only be felt and experienced in person. I’ve been lucky enough to be placed with lovely children who are always smiling and excited to go on new adventures with me. I spend most of my time with them, and in my free time, I enjoy working out. There are so many stunning trails for running, exploring, and simply soaking it all in. I’ve also taken up horseback riding at a nearby farm, learned to kayak, and started diving into their food culture—I’ve even cooked halibut and tried crab for the first time, which was a completely new experience for me.
My free time is usually spent training, exploring the surrounding nature and mountains, trying out different recipes, and fishing. What I’ve enjoyed the most so far is the family I’m staying with and the amazing place I’ve chosen to call home for this year.
When it comes to working with our team, Branislava simply says:
Very good cooperation.
Und ihre Botschaft an zukünftige Teilnehmer:
Don’t even think about skipping out on this program—it’s worth it. There’s so much value in seeing, feeling, and getting to know another culture and its people. I highly recommend it to young people and anyone with extra time on their hands who’s eager to learn, explore, and experience something completely new. You’ll meet wonderful people and create memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.
Sending warm greetings from Alaska!
