Fresh Starts, Brave Hearts – Cultural Exchange in the USA

Neue Anfänge, tapfere Herzen - Kulturaustausch in den USA

Aldina, one of our cultural exchange participants, is checking in from Ridgefield, nestled at the foot of the Berkshire Mountains, where she’s been living for about three weeks. Here’s what she shared about her early impressions.

My first impressions have been nothing short of amazing. The host family is wonderful – they welcomed me as if I were one of their own. They’d give me anything I needed, and they’re such kind, open-hearted people. I live in Ridgefield, Connecticut, about an hour away from New York City, but honestly? I’d take Ridgefield over New York any day. The nature here is stunning—lakes, rivers, sports fields… There are even people who raise horses, so if you’re into horseback riding, this is your place. It’s peaceful, and the people are just lovely. 🙂

Aldina’s days are a blend of calm and activity, perfectly suited to her interests.

In my free time, I love going for walks around the neighborhood. If I’m not in the mood for a stroll, I’ll head to a bookstore and dive into a good book or comic—or just treat myself to a hot chocolate. And if you’re the sporty type like me, don’t worry—there are tons of places to work out, both outdoors and indoors. What I love most is how calm everything feels, and how people here aren’t constantly stressed. There’s just something in the air – pure positivity. There’s nothing to be afraid of.

To anyone thinking about joining—don’t overthink it. If you’re scared of traveling or stepping into the unknown, you don’t have to be. I was nervous too—I was going far from home, into something unfamiliar—but all those worries quickly faded. Sure, the first few days are tough for everyone, but once you adjust and meet new people, it gets so much easier. Just be yourself, and everything will be okay. 🙂
