Suzana, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Madrid, the vibrant heart of the country. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:
Spending time in Spain has truly been an unforgettable experience—one I’d recommend to everyone. The host family I stayed with was absolutely lovely! They were incredibly open, and understanding, and made me feel welcome from the start.
Madrid is a stunning, artistic city full of rich history, striking architecture, and delicious food. I used my month-long stay to explore the city, improve my Spanish, and spend time with other girls from the program. Together, we uncovered many of Madrid’s famous landmarks.
Some of the highlights included the Royal Palace, where past and future meet; the Prado Museum, a haven for art lovers; the enchanting Crystal Palace hidden in Retiro Park; and the iconic Puerta de Alcalá. We even toured the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid, and of course, we tasted all kinds of traditional Spanish dishes.
It was amazing to learn about a country with such a rich heritage. What stood out the most for me was the warmth of the host family and the chance to truly get to know this beautiful country.
