Our cultural exchange participant Merjem writes to us from Jerez, a city in the Andalusian region of Spain, where she’s been living for nearly a month.
My first impression was positive. Before joining the program, I did a lot of research on Andalusia and Spain in general, so I was both excited and happy to finally have the chance to visit so many places, learn new things, and experience the culture firsthand. A huge part of this whole experience is the host family. They’re always willing to help, explain things, and suggest places to visit. They’re also genuinely curious about Bosnia and Herzegovina and my culture. It’s been truly wonderful to live in such a positive and welcoming environment. We live in a city called Jerez de la Frontera. Even though it’s not one of Spain’s most famous cities, I think it’s fascinating and has so much to offer. Beyond the attractions, what surprised me most was the incredible vibe the city has. Honestly, everything about this program has exceeded my expectations.
I’ve spent most of my free time traveling to other cities, learning about them, and meeting people from all over Spain. I also use my time to work on different skills and personal learning goals.
One of my favorite parts of the whole experience has been the people. I’ve met so many individuals who’ve taught me new things and helped create unforgettable memories. Exploring new places, trying new things, and having meaningful conversations are what have made this journey truly special for me.
I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to experience a different culture and a new way of thinking and living. It’s a great way to learn new languages and skills, and to gain valuable knowledge and memories. With the support of the professional and well-organized team from the Center for Affirmation and Development, the right mindset, and a desire to grow, I truly believe anyone can have an amazing exchange experience and accomplish a lot through this program.
