She Learned to Enjoy Her Own Company

Our cultural exchange participant Milica is writing to us from Masarrojos, a village just outside of Valencia, where she’s been living for a month and a half. Here’s more about her experience.

The program is well designed, perfect for anyone who wants to try something new, travel, and learn a language. I get along great with the host family—we speak in English, which makes communication smooth. Valencia is a beautiful city, and I often go exploring on my own, especially since the metro is nearby and makes it easy to get around independently.

In my free time, I swim in the pool at the house, ride my bike, go to the beach, explore the city, or make plans with other girls from the program to go somewhere together.

What I’ve loved the most is having the chance to spend an extended time in a foreign country and experience so many new things. I’ve grown a lot more independent, learned to manage my time better, and most importantly, I’ve learned how to truly enjoy my own company. I’ve also met some really interesting people I hope to stay in touch with, and I’ve improved my English skills along the way.

To anyone thinking about joining the program, I’d say: go for it! You’ll get to experience a new culture, become more self-reliant, improve your language skills, make new friends, and create memories that will mean a lot throughout your life.
