Choose Spain—You Won’t Regret It

Elija España: no se arrepentirá

Anđela, a participant in the cultural exchange program, writes to us from sunny Mallorca to share her reflections on life in Spain so far.

Coming to Spain—or really, to any foreign country for an extended stay where you’re immersed in the daily life of locals—is hands down one of the best things you can do if you’re open to new experiences. Sure, the beginning might feel a little off as you’re adjusting to a new rhythm and a different way of living, but that transition passes quickly. And when it does, you realize just how lucky you are to be living something this enriching.

From the food, people, and music to the natural beauty and stunning architecture, there’s something around every corner that will leave you in awe and confirm that choosing Spain (and this program) was the right move. Spanish people are warm and always ready to lend a hand, though it’s worth knowing that English isn’t their strong suit, so having a few basics in Spanish helps. When it comes to food and drink, it’s impossible to go wrong. You’ll find classics like paella, tortilla, and tapas just about everywhere, often at very affordable prices.

Even in winter, nature here is breathtaking. With palm trees, orange groves, and cacti all around, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a place where it’s always spring. The architecture is another highlight—from rustic villages to bustling city centers and historic districts filled with landmarks, you’ll constantly find yourself wanting to snap photos, whether it’s of a charming little house or a grand cathedral.

In the end, the only things you need to enjoy an experience like this are an open mind and a willingness to embrace something new. And trust me—opportunities like this are everywhere if you’re ready to say yes to them.
