A Whole New and Uplifting Experience – Cultural Exchange in Spai

Una experiencia totalmente nueva y estimulante - Intercambio cultural en España

Dajana, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Lliçà de Vall, a peaceful town just outside Barcelona. Here’s what she shared about her time abroad:

My first impressions were amazing—the family is absolutely lovely, the area I’m living in is calm, spacious, and beautiful, and Barcelona is just around the corner. Even the smaller nearby towns have their unique charm.

It did take some time to adjust to the program, to the new daily routine and responsibilities, and to living with people I had just met—especially in a language that wasn’t my own. I’ve come to believe that this kind of experience requires young people who are mature, self-aware, adaptable, and open to challenges.”

In my free time, I love to unwind. I go for walks, explore interesting new places, journal, meditate, walk the dog, prep fun English games for the girls, help out a bit around the house, and listen to music.

What I’ve loved the most so far is the love I feel in this family every single day—and the laughter that fills the house. It makes all the difference.

Su consejo a los futuros participantes:

Think carefully about why you want to join a program like this. What are your true reasons? Spending time with children is beautiful, but it also comes with real responsibilities. This isn’t a vacation disguised as a cultural exchange—it’s a commitment that asks for your patience, love, and creativity. You’re being invited into the hearts of little people, and that’s something you should never take lightly.
