A Beautiful New Experience in Spain

Ana chose to spend her summer just outside Valladolid, in the region of Castilla y León, through the “Discover Spain” cultural exchange program. Here’s what she had to share about her time there:

What’s left the biggest impression on me so far is how close families are here—how much they enjoy spending time together and how naturally that sense of togetherness flows. The family I’m staying with is truly wonderful. They treat me like one of their own, and I’m starting to feel at home.

I live in a village that’s beautiful—lots of greenery, great spots for walking, and even a few pools, making it the perfect place to spend a summer. Valladolid is just 15 minutes away, and it’s the kind of city I love—not too big, not too small. It has everything you need, but without the overwhelming crowds.

I spend a lot of time with the family because there’s always something going on at the house. Almost every day, I meet new friends or relatives of theirs—there’s always someone dropping by, always a reason for a barbecue or a gathering. Outside of that, I like to bike around, go for walks through the village or into the city, and I recently started Spanish classes where I’ve met people from all over the world.

This whole experience is completely new to me, so everything still feels fresh and exciting. I’ve dreamed of visiting Spain for a long time, and I can confidently say this is the best way to truly get to know it.

Ana’s message for future participants:

No regular trip can replace this kind of experience. It’s the most authentic way to discover a country—by becoming part of a family and living everyday life alongside them.
