Karolina shares her reflections on the cultural exchange program that brought her to the heart of Spain. Here’s her story:

I first heard about the cultural exchange program while casually scrolling through social media. As soon as I saw the question Would you like to spend your summer in Spain?, I already knew the answer. I’ve always wanted to learn Spanish, and this felt like the perfect opportunity. Even though the pandemic changed a lot of plans for everyone, I was determined not to let it stop me. The team at the Center supported me every step of the way and helped me get to Spain safely.

I’m currently living in Extremadura, a rural region known for its agriculture, so yes—I’m staying on a ranch! It’s been such a unique and authentic way to experience Spain, from meeting locals to trying traditional food. I take care of a six-year-old girl, helping her learn English naturally through play. Our time together flies by, and in the afternoons and on weekends, I’m free to lounge by the pool or explore nearby towns.

The family has welcomed me into everything they do. I’ve already met lots of new people through them, which has given me the chance to practice my Spanish every day. I’m planning to use the rest of my time here for a few trips—I’ve already got Seville and Madrid on my list.

Saying yes to this adventure has been the best decision of my life. I’m already dreaming about coming back to the country I’ve completely fallen in love with.
