A Wonderful Experience in Barcelona – Cultural Exchange in Spain

Anđela, one of our cultural exchange participants, checks in from the magical city of Barcelona, where she’ll be spending the next three months. Here’s a glimpse into her experience so far:

The most important part of having a great time in this program is choosing the right host family. I couldn’t be happier with mine. Sure, kids can sometimes be a bit much—hyperactive or moody—but if you’re placed with a kind and respectful family, the whole experience becomes something really beautiful. And as for Barcelona, it’s stunning. Probably the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to.

What I love most is the city itself and the fact that I have so much free time to explore it. I’ve met other participants from the program, and we go out for coffee together. I’ve visited all the big tourist spots, but I’ve also discovered places the locals recommended—and those were often the most special. I love to walk, and Barcelona is huge, so I spend a lot of my time strolling along the beach and exploring as much as I can on foot.

As for working with the team from the Center, I have only positive things to say. The agency has been fantastic—they try their best to help with any questions or issues that come up. In the end, the key to a good experience is matching with the right family. One great way to tell if a family is a good fit is if they’ve already hosted someone before. That way, you can reach out to their former au pair and ask all the questions you want. And for everything else, the agency has your back.

My advice for future candidates:

Try to find a family that’s already participated in the program. That way, you can get in touch with someone who’s lived with them and get a real feel for what to expect. It makes a big difference!
