An Opportunity Not to Be Missed

Una oportunidad que no debe perderse

Mina, a participant in the cultural exchange program, writes to us from Spain to share her reflections on the experience so far.

Since I’d always dreamed of discovering Spain, I decided to apply for the “Experience Spain” program—and I can honestly say I made the right choice. This is a one-of-a-kind experience! After just three weeks in this beautiful country, I already feel at home. Why? Spanish people are incredibly welcoming, sociable, open, and warm-hearted. The family I’m living with has done everything they can to make me feel comfortable and at ease. The food is fantastic, and the architecture is breathtaking. One thing is certain—Spaniards truly know how to enjoy life.

I live in Valdemoro, a town of about 75,000 people, located some 30 kilometers outside of Madrid. Saying that still feels surreal. Just a short while ago, this was only a sentence I dreamed of saying out loud, but thanks to a little courage, a desire for change, and support from the Center for Affirmation and Development, it’s now my reality.

So far, I’ve had the chance to explore Segovia, La Granja, Getafe, and Toledo—a city that steals your heart the moment you arrive—as well as charming nearby towns like Chinchón and Griñón, each with their own unique vibe and local treasures.

Spending the summer in Spain, soaking up its culture, traditions, cuisine, and stunning architecture has been a dream come true for me, and a chance I’m beyond glad I took.
