Discover Yourself Through an Unforgettable Experience – Cultural Exchange in Spain

Descúbrete a ti mismo a través de una experiencia inolvidable - Intercambio cultural en España

Lara, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Campo de Criptana, a charming town not far from the capital, Madrid, where she’s been living for the past two months. Here’s what she shared about her journey so far:

I clicked with the host family from the very beginning. Every single one of them—parents, grandparents, even extended relatives—is incredibly kind and fun to be around. They always make sure I have everything I need and never let me feel bored. They fully respect my free time and support my wish to explore Spanish culture and different places across the country. They’re easy to communicate with and open to every plan. The parents are relaxed, cheerful, and always ready to help. As for working with the girls, it’s been such a joy! They’re full of energy, curious, and eager to learn new things, and I think we get along great. They love drawing and coloring, so that’s how we spend a lot of our time together.

When it comes to Campo de Criptana itself, I was a bit unsure at first—since it’s a small town, I thought I might get bored quickly. But actually, it’s been the opposite. This place gives me a break from the busy world and helps me find peace in long walks. And since it’s only a little over an hour from Madrid, whenever I feel like experiencing the hustle and bustle of a big city—I just go. Every time I come back from Madrid (where there’s always something going on), I realize how much I appreciate the calm that Campo de Criptana offers.

I use my free time for long walks, spending time with people I’ve met here, and traveling. The family is doing everything they can to help me see as much of Spain as possible. I’ve traveled with them and on my own, and both have their charm. Honestly, by now, I don’t even count Madrid as a trip anymore—I’ve been there so many times and met such amazing people that some of them have already become close friends.

So far, out of all the places I’ve visited, I think Toledo might be my favorite. But that might change soon—my host family surprised me in the best possible way. Back when we first spoke, during our pre-arrival interview, I mentioned that one of my biggest wishes was to visit Granada. As it turns out, I’ll be celebrating my birthday here in Spain, and they decided to take me to Granada for it. It’s such a beautiful gesture, and I’m incredibly touched.

The people I’ve met here are joyful and open. Not only do they share their culture with me, but they’re also curious to learn about where I come from and our traditions. Honestly, Spain is never boring (at least not for me). What I love most is the overall vibe of this country. I’ve learned to enjoy rainy days here—they no longer feel grey or gloomy. I’ve learned to find something beautiful in every moment. And most importantly, I’ve discovered new parts of myself in the process.

Su mensaje a los futuros participantes:

If you’re adaptable (trust me, it’s easier than you think) and open to being away from your home, family, and friends for a while (which can be a good thing!), then absolutely apply! This experience isn’t just about learning new cultures—it’s also about discovering yourself. This program gives you the chance to make meaningful connections, travel to amazing places, explore different ways of life, and most importantly—create unforgettable memories.
