Milica, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, is writing to us from Algeciras, a coastal town near Gibraltar. Here’s what she shared about her experience so far:
I’m really happy with the family I’m staying with—I made the right choice. Algeciras might not be the most architecturally stunning city, and it’s on the smaller side, but it’s by the sea, has beautiful beaches, and the people here are incredibly kind. Plus, it’s super easy to reach nearby cities, which makes weekend exploring a breeze.
I have plenty of free time during the week, so I usually spend it reading, watching shows, going on walks, swimming in the pool, or heading to the beach. On weekends, I make the most of it by visiting other towns in the area.
The highlight for me has been meeting new people and getting to know the local culture up close.

If you’re unsure about any part of the program, or if this would be your first time traveling alone to a different country, don’t worry—you’ve got the support of the Center’s team and previous participants, who are always willing to help.
The biggest piece of advice I can give you is: choose your host family carefully. It makes all the difference when it comes to your overall experience abroad. Don’t rush into a decision—take your time, and don’t hesitate to ask the family any questions during your first calls.
And most importantly—don’t forget to enjoy yourself! 😊🌸
