Jelica, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Cabra, a small town near Seville, where she spent two months. Here’s what she shared about her experience:
Right from the moment I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. The whole family was there to welcome me—along with friends, plenty of food and drinks, and an atmosphere full of good energy. I stayed in a small town in the heart of Andalusia, far from the tourist crowds, which gave me the perfect chance to truly get to know Spanish culture and experience everyday life outside the typical tourist lens.
On weekends, I traveled around Andalusia using BlaBlaCar. In Córdoba, I met up with another girl from the program who was staying with a different family. I also visited Málaga, Granada, Marbella, and Seville. I spent three days in Seville with three other girls from Serbia, all of us part of the same exchange program.
The host family was incredibly kind and welcoming. They went out of their way to help me settle in and make the most of our time together. They embraced me with open arms, and we kept in touch even after I returned home. When I visit Spain again—which I definitely will—they’ll be one of the first people I see.
Su mensaje a los futuros participantes:
To all future participants: if you plan to explore the country as much as possible, I recommend choosing a host family in a bigger, tourist-friendly city, since connections from smaller towns can be a bit tricky. And while you’re there—relax, soak it all in, and enjoy the ride.
