Out of My Comfort Zone and Into the Heart of Andalusia

Ana always knew exactly where she wanted to go—Spain. So, when the opportunity to join the cultural exchange program came up, she jumped at the chance and spent two months in the southernmost parts of Seville.

I’ve always dreamed of visiting Spain—to meet the people, experience the culture, taste the food… and now, I’ve had the chance to do all of that and even more. I live in Córdoba with a wonderful family. They’re warm, welcoming, and always make sure I feel at home. If I ever have a problem, they’re there to help. I’m looking after their daughter, who’s probably the sweetest kid I’ve ever met. We play together, go swimming, take walks, cook, and she’s even learned a few words in Serbian.

After fulfilling her daily responsibilities, Ana usually spends time with the little girl or heads out to explore the city and meet new people. Her weekends, however, were reserved for adventure.

On the weekends, I travel to other cities. I think I’ve pretty much seen all of Andalusia—Seville, Malaga, Granada, and a few smaller towns too.

Now that the program has ended and she’s had time to reflect, Ana says she’s genuinely happy with her decision to take part.

I stepped out of my comfort zone—and that turned out to be a great thing. I’d recommend this program to anyone who wants to discover a new culture, language, and way of life. Just one tip: make sure you know at least a little Spanish, because hardly anyone here speaks English!
