Helena, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, wrote to us from the beautiful town of El Rompido, located in the Huelva province. She’s been enjoying the beauty and warmth of this southern coastal gem for several weeks now—and here’s what she had to share:
During the first few days, I was overwhelmed—in the best way—because coming to Spain had been a huge dream of mine. The host family went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and truly accepted me as part of their family. The little girl I’m taking care of is lovely. I’ve been going out with friends, and traveling, and I’ve made a bunch of new friendships in such a short time. I honestly love everything about the cultural exchange program—the communication with the parents, the free time, and the whole experience in general.
The girl and I had a few minor misunderstandings in the beginning, but the family was incredibly supportive, and now everything is going great.
When it comes to working with our team, Helena says:
The collaboration with the Center has been wonderful! They’re so understanding and took the time to listen to me. Everything I had hoped for came true.
Y su mensaje a los futuros participantes:
Don’t overthink it. This is the kind of experience that stays with you for life—and it can only change you for the better. And if, for some reason, it doesn’t work out, there’s always a return ticket. So you’ve got nothing to lose.
I’d also recommend reaching out to former participants—they can be incredibly helpful. At the same time, stay cautious and, most importantly, trust yourself. Some people don’t have the best experience, and that’s okay—they’re not you. Stick with the positive stories and trusted recommendations.
