Exchange in Spain – Being in the Right Place at the Right Time

Our cultural exchange participant Anđela is writing to us from Conil de la Frontera, one of the famous “White Towns” of Andalusia, where she’s been staying for just over a month.

The program is well designed. The host family I’m living with is incredibly kind and respectful of everything we agree on. And the town itself is absolutely lovely. There’s a saying, “being in the right place at the right time,” and I truly believe Conil de la Frontera is the perfect place to be during the summer months in Spain—full of tourists, stunning beaches, and fascinating people.

In my free time, I hang out with other cultural exchange participants, travel, spend time on the beach watching magical sunsets, meet new people, and immerse myself in the Spanish language, culture, and cuisine.

What has meant the most to me during this exchange are the people I’ve met, the knowledge I’ve gained, and the way my view of Spanish culture has broadened through music, dance, art, traditions, language, and food.

There’s a quote by Mark Twain that says, “Education consists mainly in what we have unlearned,” and that spirit of wanting to grow and expand my understanding is exactly what pushed me to join this exchange program.

My conclusion? Taking part in a cultural exchange is like getting a ticket into a whole new world—one filled with travel, language learning, cultural discovery, new friendships, and experiences that stay with you forever. I’d honestly recommend it to everyone at least once in their lifetime.
