Our cultural exchange participant, Teodora, sends warm greetings from Madrid, where she is spending a month immersed in Spanish life. Here’s what she shared about her experience so far.
My first impressions of the program are more than positive—I’m truly enjoying both the city and the family I’ve been placed with. I’m currently living in Madrid, and the Rubio family has been nothing but kind and welcoming toward me.
In my free time, I love relaxing by the pool, wandering through the neighborhoods, and exploring everything this vibrant, multi-million–person city has to offer.
I connect with the Spanish mentality and their openness. I’ve also had the chance to visit other parts of Spain with the family, which has made this experience even richer.
What I’ve enjoyed most is how naturally people have accepted me—I feel like part of the family. I’ve also met new friends and gotten to see different parts of Spain every weekend.
To anyone considering this program, I say: go for it. It’s a chance to learn something new about yourself, make lifelong friends, and experience cultures from all around the world.
