Jelena, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, spent a month and a half living in Madrid. Here’s what she had to say about her experience.
She describes the program as fantastic, mainly because it gave her the chance to live with a Spanish family and dive deep into their culture. The host family was kind, though it took a little time for everyone to get to know each other and settle into a rhythm. To connect with the children, Jelena came up with various activities that helped build a bond and encouraged shared moments.
She lived in Las Matas, a neighborhood about 30 minutes from the center of Madrid by train. Thanks to the city’s excellent public transportation, getting around was easy and convenient.
In her free time, Jelena explored every corner of Madrid and visited all its major attractions. She also enjoyed the local nightlife, going out with other girls from the exchange program to fiestas and clubs.
