Our cultural exchange participant Dragana wrote to us from Palma de Mallorca, where she’s been staying for nearly a month and a half.
Palma is a lovely city, but in my opinion, it’s more of a shopping destination—there aren’t that many culturally significant landmarks. As for the beaches, the ones in the city itself aren’t anything special compared to those in other parts of Mallorca. So if you come here, my advice is: don’t stay in Palma the whole time—get out and explore the island!
I spend most of my free time hanging out with other girls from the program. So far, I’ve been exploring places outside of Palma on my own. I initially expected the host family to take me around to nearby towns, but that hasn’t happened yet—hopefully that will change once they have fewer work obligations next month.
What I enjoy most is that I’ve made connections with other girls in the program and that we all came here with the same goal—to explore as much as we can and visit as many different places as possible. I also love the party scene here, so if you’re someone who enjoys nightlife, Mallorca is definitely a good pick.
To anyone thinking about joining the program, I’d say go for it, but also try to reach out to previous participants beforehand. They can give you a better idea of what to expect in certain parts of Spain, so you can arrive as prepared as possible.
