Katarina, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, wrote to us from the lovely town of Vilanova i la Geltrú. She’s been enjoying life there for several weeks now, and here’s what she had to share about her experience:
From the very beginning, the family welcomed me with open arms. They’re incredibly polite and kind. Every day, they teach me something new about Spain—whether it’s food, history, or fun facts about the country and its cities. I’m having a great time with the girls; of course, we have our ups and downs, but in the end, we’ve grown to love each other and enjoy spending time together.
The town itself is beautiful, and I like it. Even though it’s small, there’s something new to see every day. Cities like Barcelona, Sitges, and Tarragona are only about 40 minutes away by car, so we take weekend trips to explore them whenever we can.
I usually spend my free time with the host family. We travel to other cities, go to the beach, or just walk around Vilanova. What I love most is how genuinely accepted I feel by the family—it means a lot.
When it comes to working with our team, Katarina says:
The collaboration was great—I’m very happy with it!
And her message to future participants:
This program is truly a life-changing experience. You get the chance to meet so many new people and create friendships that could last a lifetime. You also get to learn about another country in a way that’s completely different from any other—by living with people from that country and experiencing their everyday life up close.
