Mina, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, is writing to us from the charming city of Pamplona. She’s been enjoying life in Navarra for the past few weeks, and here’s a peek into her unforgettable experience.
My host family welcomed me like one of their own. I’m currently taking care of a 12-year-old girl, and honestly, it feels like she’s my little sister. Everything here runs on mutual understanding — both with the parents and the child. We spend our days exploring the city and learning something new every day. They’ve introduced me to so many dishes I had never tried before, and our conversations often turn into fun comparisons between Serbian and Spanish culture. It’s such a great way for all of us to learn more about each other.
Pamplona is a small city in northern Spain. Even though it’s not huge, there’s plenty to see and do. What struck me right away was how warm and friendly the people are. One of my goals was to improve my Spanish, and everyone has been so patient — they even help me with pronunciation and word choice when I get stuck. Wherever I go, I’m met with kindness and open arms.
I love visiting museums and listening to guides talk about their country’s history with so much passion. On top of that, every Thursday in July and August, I get to enjoy live music from a new band playing downtown. The way people here come together around these events really inspires me. Long walks around the city have become a big part of my routine — no matter where I go, I always stumble across some hidden corner, a scenic viewpoint, or an old neighborhood full of stories that locals are more than happy to share.
Just having the chance to spend two months here is incredible on its own, but what keeps amazing me over and over again is how generous and welcoming the people are. They light up when I tell them I’m from Serbia and that I study Spanish language, literature, and culture. It means so much to them — and to me.
This is my first time in Spain, so I’ve definitely had moments of uncertainty, but I always feel like I can ask a local for help. Whether I’m unsure what to eat or where to go, their recommendations are always spot-on. They know their city best, after all.
When it comes to working with the team at the Center, I can honestly say they’re a wonderful group of people. As someone traveling far from home for the first time, it was so important for me to know I had someone to rely on — and I truly did. From trip planning to navigating life in Spain, they were there for every step. Super kind and endlessly patient!

I’d wholeheartedly recommend this cultural exchange program to anyone. These amazing people helped me achieve a dream I’d been holding onto for so long — and they can help you too. My only regret is not finding them sooner.
