The Italians Are Expecting Me Again Next Year – Cultural Exchange in Italy

Our cultural exchange participant in Italy, Jelena, writes to us from Neive, a small town in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, where she’s been staying for over two months. Read more about her experience below.

From the moment I arrived, I instantly connected with the family—and even more importantly, with the child I spend most of my time with. We’ve had no issues at all; we discuss everything together and plan our days as a team.

The town I’m living in is called Neive. It’s very small, but that’s actually a plus—it’s peaceful and quiet. Nearby, there are other towns like Barbaresco, Alessandria, and Turin, all of which I’ve visited as well. I’m really happy with both the family and the program.

In my free time, I explore the nearby cities. As I mentioned, I’ve already been to Turin, Genoa, Alessandria, Barbaresco, Castiglione, and Recco.

What I’ve loved the most is how many new things I’ve gotten to try and all the amazing people I’ve met. This program offers such a unique experience—it’s a beautiful thing to step away from your own country for a while and truly get to know another. Of course, there are tough days too, but they pass—and in the end, you’re left with nothing but the good memories.

I haven’t had a single problem with the family. They’ve already told me they’re expecting me again next year.

To anyone thinking about applying, my advice is: go for it! You’ll gain a new journey, a new experience—and it can bring so much into your life. Be patient and trust yourself completely. As for me, after this program, I’m going home happier and prouder of myself!
