A Dream Life in Sicily – Cultural Exchange Through Friendship

Đurđa and Milica have been on exchange in Palermo for just over a month now, and they’re experiencing it all side by side. They met through the program, traveled together, and are now staying with families who live near each other—turning what started as an adventure into a shared journey.

Though she initially insisted on going to northern Italy, Đurđa eventually took our advice and headed south—and she hasn’t looked back since.

You can’t help but fall in love with Palermo, she says. The city is full of culture, historical sights, and a great vibe for young people. From the food to the atmosphere, everything is just perfect. Sicily is packed with beauty, and I try to visit new places whenever I can. I spend time with friends, meet new people, and improve my language skills through everyday conversations. The atmosphere in Sicily is incredible. I love trying new dishes and exploring other towns. The most beautiful beaches and sights are right here in the south of Italy. This is a wonderful opportunity, and I truly hope everyone takes it. Life in Italy feels like a dream, and the experiences you gain are unforgettable.

This is a wonderful opportunity, and I truly hope everyone makes the most of it. Life in Italy is a dream, and the experiences you gain are priceless. I spend my free time exploring the city and taking trips to nearby places that are popular with tourists. Since I’m right by the sea, I often head to the beach. I’m free every day until 3 p.m., so I usually take a walk around the city, stop by my favorite bakery, and try something new—because Palermo has so many things we don’t have back home in the Balkans. What I love most about this program is the freedom. It doesn’t feel like I’m working—time with the child flies by and is genuinely fun, and then I’m free to go wherever I want, do whatever I want. If you’re looking to really get to know a country, this is the perfect way to do it.
