Learning Through Living: Bojan’s Spanish Exchange Experience

Imparare vivendo: L'esperienza di scambio spagnolo di Bojan

Bojan joined the cultural exchange program this summer and found himself immersed in the heart of Galician life. He arrived in Santiago on July 16th, where his host family greeted him with such warmth that it felt like they’d known each other forever. After piling into the car and heading toward Cambados, they spent the ride chatting, sightseeing, and bonding.

Their home is nestled above a sprawling vineyard in the rural area of Castrelo, with stunning views of the ocean. Bojan has his private room, bathroom, and closet—he couldn’t have asked for better accommodation.

Their days are full and vibrant. Mornings usually begin with breakfast and local excursions to explore the region’s landmarks. Lunchtimes are often spent biking to the grandparents’ house, and afternoons are reserved for relaxing on the beach. Evenings bring festivals and cultural events—there’s always something happening.

He describes the experience as one of the biggest cultural shifts he’s ever gone through while traveling. The family is doing everything they can to make his stay enriching and memorable, and in return, Bojan is absorbing the rhythm of their culture in real-time.

Language-wise, it’s a win-win. His host family is improving their English, and he’s making real strides in Spanish thanks to their constant interaction. As Bojan puts it, this kind of learning doesn’t come from textbooks.
