Jelena, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, spent three unforgettable months in Gijón, the largest city in the region of Asturias. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:
Gijón, a city on the northern coast of Spain, instantly won me over. I’ve always loved the sea, so it was pretty much a given that I’d find it beautiful—and I was right. 😁
My first impression was that people here are incredibly friendly, upbeat, and social. They seem so much more laid-back than we are, and they live with way less stress. 😄
My host family was very supportive and always encouraged me to travel, go out, and spend time with new people. Through student events held in the city, I met so many people from all over the world. These events not only helped me connect with others but also introduced me to travel buddies for weekend adventures. 😁
I usually spent my weekends traveling, and during the week I’d go to the gym, meet up with friends, and enjoy student life in the city.
