Svetlana, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Sant Vicenç de Castellet, where she’s been living for the past month. Here’s what she shared about her time abroad:
This program is a wonderful opportunity to experience a new country without spending a lot of money! The costs are minimal, and the ‘job’ I do here doesn’t take much time or energy. From the very beginning, the family has been absolutely lovely. We get along so easily and they always stick to what we agreed upon. They’re warm, and kind, and I never feel like I’m just here to ‘work’—I feel like part of the family. The town might be small, but it’s full of charm. There’s always something going on—festivals, events—so it’s never boring. I usually spend my free time walking around town or doing fun activities with the family, since they often plan things for us to do together.
What stood out the most for her was the balance:
I love that the family is so understanding. They don’t expect me to do everything or be with the child 24/7. I have clear working hours, and they respect that.

Go for it—you won’t regret it! This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences that I’ll talk about forever. It’s the perfect chance to explore a country, learn about its culture, and pick up (or improve) a language along the way.
