Anastasija, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, is writing to us from the city of Santiago de Compostela in the beautiful region of Galicia, where she’s been living for the past two months. Here’s what her unforgettable experience has been like so far:
I’ve been in Galicia, in northern Spain, for a month now. The family I’m staying with has been wonderful—they welcomed me like I was one of their own. This region is stunning, with a perfect location, charming little towns, gorgeous beaches, lush nature, and tons of cultural attractions. I’ve also met so many kind and open-hearted people. I’m genuinely enjoying every single moment!
I usually spend my free time with the friends I’ve made here, and sometimes I go off on my own to explore different parts of Galicia. Most often, we’ll head to the beach together, grab lunch or coffee, or visit nearby towns. We also go to local events like concerts and cultural festivals. Every day brings something new and beautiful! What I’ve enjoyed the most is getting to know a whole new culture firsthand and being part of a Spanish family’s everyday life. I feel accepted and appreciated, and what means the most to me is the strong connections I’ve built—not only with the family but with new friends as well. I’ve completely fallen for the beauty of Galicia, its nature, beaches, and rich traditions. This experience has truly opened up my world and helped me grow on a personal level.
I’m so grateful to the Center for Affirmation and Development for being there for me every step of the way. They patiently explained everything I needed to know and continued to support me throughout the entire program, which means a lot. I sincerely recommend them to any young person wanting to discover something new, explore other countries and cultures, and experience a different lifestyle. It’s been a truly beautiful journey!
To future candidates, I would say—don’t hesitate. This is a fantastic opportunity for personal growth, cultural immersion, and unforgettable experiences. The program gives you a chance to live in another country, improve your language skills, make new friends, and step out of your comfort zone. Every day brings something new and valuable, and I’m sure this will become one of your most cherished memories.
