Spain During the Coronavirus – Through the Eyes of Our Participants

La Spagna durante il Coronavirus - Attraverso gli occhi dei nostri partecipanti

Many of our participants found themselves in countries heavily impacted by the coronavirus outbreak, including Spain. Because the safety of every participant is our top priority, we’ve remained in constant communication with them throughout this period.

Here’s what Jovana, currently taking part in our cultural exchange program in Spain, had to say about the current situation and how quarantine life is affecting her:

Sending love and warm greetings to everyone — I hope you’re all staying safe at home. I’m Jovana Bajić from Belgrade, Serbia, and I’m currently living in Pontevedra, in the northwest of Spain. Since the coronavirus outbreak escalated, we’ve been officially in lockdown since March 13, 2020. It all stopped overnight. Everything closed — except hospitals, pharmacies, and grocery stores. People here took it seriously, and so did I, right alongside them.

I have a wonderful host family who’s doing everything they can to make life in quarantine easier for me, and I’m doing my best to support them as well. Things are great with the kids — we play games, draw, sing, dance, watch cartoons or movies, and even help each other learn our languages.

Honestly, not much has changed in my daily life, aside from not going outside. Sure, there are moments of stress or anxiety now and then, but those pass too. I’m thankful for the family’s support, for how warmly they’ve welcomed me, and especially for not giving up on this experience, even in these unusual times.
