Spain Isn’t Meant to Be Described – It’s Meant to Be Lived

Nemanja, one of our cultural exchange participants, first set off on an unforgettable journey through Spain before continuing his adventures all the way to China. With two successful exchanges now behind him, he shares a vivid picture of his time in Spain.

During the program, I wasn’t just based in the Guadalajara region—I moved around to several different places. We’d spend weekends in the countryside and the summer months in the stunning coastal town of Oropesa Del Mar. That way, I got to experience the full spectrum of Spanish life. From the very first day, the family welcomed me with warmth, understanding, and that signature Spanish positivity.

Working with the kids was just as fulfilling as the travel.

The older boy was eight and had already been learning English for a few years, so we worked on grammar tasks he found tricky. With the younger one, who’s four, we focused on learning basic vocabulary—numbers, body parts, emotions, and things like that.

Every free day was an opportunity to hit the beach. Throughout his three-month stay, Nemanja says the atmosphere remained consistently relaxed and uplifting.

I ended up spending even more time with the children than expected. I never felt the need to retreat or ask for space. I was embraced as a true member of the family, and that meant a lot to me.

He also appreciated the effort extended by the extended family to make him feel at home. Along the way, he noticed real progress in his Spanish, and he made a point to travel and explore new parts of the country each weekend—sometimes solo, sometimes with the host family.

His message to anyone considering the program?
