Summer 2020 in Spain: Stories from Cultural Exchange Participants

Estate 2020 in Spagna: Storie di partecipanti allo scambio culturale

Many people are wondering: Is it still possible to take part in a cultural exchange program right now? The answer is yes – and the best proof comes from our participants who spent their summer living the Spanish dream. Here’s what they had to say:

Lola is currently with a lovely host family near Barcelona:

It’s been almost two weeks since I arrived, and I already feel at home. Everyone’s super kind and genuine, I’m slowly absorbing the language, and the sea is just a short walk from the house – honestly, life here is beautiful and I’m enjoying every moment 😌

Isidora shared this about her arrival in the north:

Due to the pandemic, my trip was postponed until summer. Even though things were still a bit uncertain, I knew I didn’t want to give up on my dream.

Arriving in Bilbao completely blew me away – the city’s authentic vibe convinced me I’d made the right call. The Basque region is captivating, not only because of its blend of old and modern architecture and lush landscapes, but also because of the unique Basque language. My Spanish came in handy both with my host family and around the city. I’ve been lucky – my family welcomed me warmly, and I genuinely feel like one of them. The time I spend with the kids just flies by as we play and practice English together.

Jelena, soaking up the sun on Ibiza:

I’ve always dreamed of visiting Spain – the beaches, the culture, the people. This exchange gave me the chance to live that dream.

After a lot of thought, I finally jumped in, and honestly, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m living on a stunning island with endless beaches and amazing landscapes, enjoying every day with my host family. We explore new places, try new foods, and they’re always making sure I have everything I need.

If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing life in Spain, go for it. This opportunity is truly one-of-a-kind!

Mina is all about that active lifestyle – currently based in Gran Canaria:

I really can’t complain – I’m just so grateful to have a roof over my head, good food, and the chance to experience something this rare and wonderful. I recommend this to everyone!

Tatjana, currently in Palma de Mallorca, shares:

My first impression of the host family was amazing! Things are going great with the little girl I spend time with, and we’re already making progress. The locals are super friendly, always up for a chat – especially over a good meal 😊

Dora sends her love from Córdoba:

Everyone’s been so welcoming from the start – I truly feel like part of the family. I’ve been very happy with how everything was handled. This program is the perfect way to get to know another country, improve your language skills, and become part of a new community. With the weekly stipend covering most expenses, you’re saving money while gaining an incredible experience. Highly recommend!

Dijana has had quite the journey through Barcelona, Pontevedra, and now A Coruña:

What a beautiful, sunny country! I knew right away I’d chosen the right family – they treat me like their own. We may mix English and Spanish when we talk, but it works perfectly!

Tamara started her journey in Málaga and is now exploring Seville:

So much of this is brand new – new routines, new faces, new everything. At first, I felt overwhelmed and honestly thought I wouldn’t last ten days. But after a few days of sensory overload and language juggling, things started to click. Every day we’re getting more comfortable with each other and building a great vibe. I’m loving the food, the sun, the pools, the sangria… and my new family. I can’t wait to see what the next month and a half brings!

Thinking about applying yourself? Let these stories be your sign: it’s possible, it’s enriching, and it might just be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make.
