The Spanish Truly Know How to Live in the Moment

Gli spagnoli sanno davvero come vivere il momento

Our cultural exchange participant in Spain, Milica, is currently staying in Sotogrande—often called the Palm Springs of Andalusia—where she’s spent the past month and a half. Here’s more about her experience so far.

Even though I’ve participated in exchanges before, each one is truly unique. I had a rough idea of what to expect, but the family I’m staying with completely exceeded anything I could’ve imagined. From the warm welcome at the airport to the genuinely relaxed and comfortable vibe at home, they’ve made me feel like one of their own. They’ve also been eager to show me the beauty of not only their town but the surrounding areas as well.

Most of my free time is spent exploring places I hadn’t heard of before or relaxing on the beach. On some days, I prefer spending time with the family—going for a walk together or just watching a movie at home.

What’s impressed me the most is the culture and the way people here carry themselves. It feels like folks in this part of Spain know how to live in the moment and make the most of life. Everyone is easygoing, always up for a chat or a bit of fun. Siesta time has officially become part of my daily routine—like a midday reset when half of Spain seems to drift off for a nap.

To future participants:

Don’t overthink it. Let go of the doubts, step outside your comfort zone, and give yourself the chance to discover a whole new culture and way of life.

Because what you take home from this exchange isn’t just beautiful photos—it’s memories and experiences that stay with you forever.
