Stefana, a participant in the cultural exchange program, writes to us from Spain to share her reflections on what has become one of the most transformative chapters of her life.
When I first decided to apply for the cultural exchange program, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It all started from a place of curiosity and a desire to try something new. But now, as my time here is slowly coming to an end, I’ve realized that joining this program was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The experience has been truly irreplaceable. I had the chance to live in a completely different environment, with a new family, speaking a new language, and celebrating their traditions and holidays.
I traveled through almost all of the Basque Country—both the Spanish and the French side—and made some truly wonderful friendships along the way. The time I spent with my host family is something I’ll cherish forever. They welcomed me as one of their own, made me feel at home, and gave me the freedom to speak openly and ask questions about anything. I was always met with understanding, and we always managed to find common ground.
This experience has enriched me on so many levels, and I know I’ll carry it with me for the rest of my life.
