One of Life’s Greatest Experiences – Cultural Exchange in the USA

Valentina, one of our cultural exchange participants, is writing to us from Snoqualmie, a beautiful town just outside of Seattle, where she’ll be spending the next year. Here’s what she had to say about her time so far.

This program is perfect for anyone ready to step outside their comfort zone and spend some time in a completely new atmosphere, surrounded by a different culture. The U.S. offers so many opportunities for growth, fun, and most importantly – learning. I learn the most from the four children I care for here in Snoqualmie.

Nestled in nature, Snoqualmie turned out to be an excellent match for Valentina.

This is a nature-loving town, which suits me perfectly. It helped me realize that all those stories about the ‘unhealthy American lifestyle’ are often exaggerated and very subjective. Life in the U.S. can be incredibly high-quality – if you know how to take care of yourself and want to. And the kind, helpful people around you make that journey a whole lot easier.

When she’s off duty, Valentina knows how to enjoy her time:

I spend a lot of time outdoors with the family dog, but I also love going shopping – there’s so much to find here at really affordable prices. Of course, one of the biggest highlights is exploring the city and traveling to other states. All of my expectations have been met, and some things even exceeded them. What I love most is that I feel like I’m living independently, while still having people around me.

Her message to future applicants?

Apply and give it a try. This experience will teach you more than any school or book ever could. Be open to new friendships and cultures. Be confident and believe that exploring a city – or a whole country like the U.S. – on your own is one of the best things you can do for your mental and physical well-being.
