One of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, Ivana spent two unforgettable months in Pontevedra, a charming town on the Spanish-Portuguese border. Here’s what she had to share about her time there.
I can honestly say this was one of the best summers of my life. I’ve always been adventurous, and I love traveling and exploring new places—and this program gave me exactly that. I got the chance to experience a different culture, meet new people, and discover new destinations.
From day one, the family was incredibly supportive and present. When I first found out I was going to Pontevedra in Galicia, I wasn’t overly excited. I had chosen Spain, hoping to end up somewhere in the south.
But, now I can say with certainty that I was completely wrong. I spent the summer in Pontevedra, a small town in Galicia, right near the Portuguese border—and I fell in love with it immediately. The town has that old-world charm and a soul that pulls you in. And just like the town, the people quickly won me over. They were open, friendly, and eager to make connections. Thanks to this program, I made some truly amazing friendships and unforgettable memories. Galicia is full of vibrant festivals and always buzzing with life. I had the opportunity to travel quite a bit, both around Spain and even into Portugal.
As I mentioned, the host family was always there for me, ready to help and include me in their lives. My days had a nice rhythm—weekdays were mostly spent with the family and relaxing at the beach, while weekends were packed with local events and fun in the town that never seemed to sleep.
This program helped me create some truly priceless memories. If you’re considering it, I wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience.
