Nina, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Calafell, a small seaside town nestled between Barcelona and Tarragona. Here’s what she shared about her experience:
I’m enjoying the program, and I can already say that my Spanish has improved. I live in a small town near Barcelona called Calafell, and it’s full of tourists. The beaches are beautiful, and there are lots of cafés and restaurants to enjoy.
When it comes to the host family, I feel truly welcomed and accepted. They’re always there for me whenever I have a question or need support.
I’ve also met other au pairs who live in the same town, and after work, we usually go to the beach or grab a coffee. Since we’re all free on weekends, we like to take day trips and visit nearby towns together.
It’s hard to choose what I loved most—Barcelona is a place I could return to again and again; it completely won me over. But the people and the host family who made me feel so at home are just as special.
Her message to future participants:
I truly believe this is one of the best decisions you can make—and that everyone should have the chance to experience something like this at least once in their life.
