The Best Way to Discover a New Culture – Cultural Exchange in Spain

Andrea, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, writes to us from Palma de Mallorca, in the heart of the Mediterranean. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:

I’m very happy with my host family—they’ve welcomed me as one of their own. Our communication is great, and we agree on everything without any issues. The island is absolutely beautiful and there’s so much to see and explore. The weather has also been amazing for this time of year, so I’ve been enjoying my days.

In my free time, I go to salsa classes, which I found through a local organization here in town. I also go on trips, work out, and study Spanish. I’m doing my best to visit as many places as I can—there really is so much to discover!

What I’ve loved most is getting to know the local culture in a truly authentic way. I enjoy the way people here live and how easy it is to meet and connect with others. Honestly, I didn’t expect to have such a great time at this time of year, but the weather has been gorgeous and there aren’t too many tourists, so you can explore everything without the usual crowds.

Her message to future participants:

To all future participants—apply! Spending time in a country like this gives you the chance to experience its culture the right way. Also, when applying for the program, make sure to discuss all the details with your host family, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. That way, your stay will be much more relaxed and enjoyable, because you’ll know exactly what to expect.
