We caught up with Marija, one of our cultural exchange participants in Spain, who’s been spending time in beautiful Yuncos, a town in the province of Toledo. Her experience was full of warm moments and discoveries—read on to hear all about it:
I like how the program is structured. Everything was handled exactly as promised—both in terms of the contract and the basic expectations. The warmth and hospitality of the host family won me over within the first few days. I felt more than welcome. They made a real effort to share as much as they could about their culture, country, people, and language. We spoke both Spanish and English, helping each other along the way.
The town I stayed in is a small place nestled between Toledo and Madrid, and thanks to the well-organized public transport, both cities (and beyond) were super easy to reach. I honestly think this program is a great fit for anyone with experience working with kids, who enjoys spending time with them, has a solid level of English (since that’s the main language for communication), and wants to spend their summer on an active, adventure-filled journey—exploring the world and learning more about themselves and others.I’ve gone on short trips, arranged in agreement with the family. They were always willing to adjust my working hours whenever I needed more time to explore a bigger city. Flexibility was key—on both their side and mine.
What meant the most to me was the opportunity to gain such a meaningful life experience in a beautiful setting; being surrounded by the language I wanted to learn helped me so much. I met new people and formed friendships that I’ll truly cherish.
When it comes to working with our team, Marija says:
Highly recommended. Ongoing help and support. Friendly staff.
And her message to future candidates thinking about applying?
Just go for it!
