Jovana, a participant in the Experience Spain program, shares her impressions from Valladolid—and it’s easy to see why she’s fallen in love with the country!
She first visited Spain in May of the previous year, and after being completely enchanted by its charm, she knew she wanted to stay longer. Though she’d often talked about learning Spanish, her university schedule made it hard to find the time. But the moment she came across an article about the cultural exchange program, she jumped on it—signed up the same day. With guidance and support from the amazing Kristina and her team, she’s now living out that dream in Valladolid.
Her mornings are spent with an eight-year-old boy, learning English through dinosaur stories, SpongeBob, and tales of sea creatures. As she puts it, getting a kid to learn during summer break isn’t exactly easy, so she cleverly turns the lessons into games. The best part? He’s now speaking English with confidence, even in front of others, which wasn’t the case before.
The host family has been nothing short of wonderful. Always ready with travel suggestions, open to conversation, cheerful, and genuinely invested in making her time in Spain unforgettable. Her weekends have been full of adventure: exploring Madrid, visiting Komijas, splashing around in a water park near the capital, and even spending time with the extended family. She loved how open and kind the Spanish people are. Not many of them speak English, true, but that never stops them from trying to help and connect.
She wishes her stay could last longer—but with just two weeks left, she’s already planning to apply for another round. She’s heading back to Serbia with so much more than she arrived with: new friends, amazing memories, and a feeling that only Spain can give you.
